I use MS Live Writer to prepare my blogspot posts offline and publish directly from it. So I end up with a copy on my PC which I can consider as backup. Among the drawbacks are that only posts can be saved while other conversation on the site is lost. See if this works for you or not.

I'm glad you like it... :) BTW, I'm working on a version right now that solves the FeedBurner redirection issue as well as the "Must be a public feed" issue. Also to make future installs easier, I'm going to starting including the "setup.exe" with the MSI. Running the Setup.exe will do the "what .Net Framework do you have installed, and if you don't have it, here's how you get it" grunt work for you, making the install process much easier... And you're right, if the utility doesn't support restoring of comments (which as you've found it doesn't it), then they shouldn't be listed or allowed in the "Select Post(s) to Restore" dialog.
