This post deals primarily with pointing your blog to either a domain name you purchased or a domain (or sub-domain) on your self-hosted site. You would still be using your original blog and it would still be on wordpress.com, but you could get it using your own domain name, like clear.bluedei.com instead of allthingsweb20.wordpress.com. In Blog Tip: Adding Pages to Enhance your Blog – Part 1 I talked about adding pages like “About Me” or “Our Location” (or whatever you want) to your blog. Now let’s look at adding sub-pages and a few widgets to enhance your Wordpress.org (self-hosted wordpress) blog.
But before that, Christopher was kind enough to leave a comment on Part 1 explaining how to simulate multiple link list… Continue reading | 1 Comment

Why would you want to add pages to your blog? Well, maybe you want to add an “About Me” page, or a “Books I’m Reading” page or a “Our Travels” page. Or maybe you are a business, like a library and you want to add an “Events” page or a “Location” page or “Help” or “Our Schedule” or any number of things.
If you add them to your blog… Continue reading | 2 Comments

I have had trouble adding the embed code for a YouTube video to my self-hosted WordPress blog from wordpress.org.
Normaly, you would copy the embed code from the page of the YouTube video you want to copy, into your post where you want to add it, using the ‘code’ tab for your post.
But that doesn’t usually work and you end up with nothing showing up, even though… Continue reading

This is the final post in this series. In Part One I created blogs in each of the various blog engines. Part Two then reviewed the 3 major blog engines, Google Blogger, Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org.
I’ve decided to make my primary blog my own hosted Wordpress from WordPress.org on my own domain Clear.Bluedei.com. You will notice however, that it is not as full-featured yet and my… Continue reading | 7 Comments

So as you know from my first post on this “Google Blogger vs. WordPress, Blog Wars Part 1: The Test“, I am reviewing and evaluating several different blog engines, with an emphasis on Google Blogger and WordPress (.com and .org). You can see my previous post to see the different blogs in action. And I’m sure this is going to be a large post, just reviewing the Blogger… Continue reading | 14 Comments

I have recently gotten into blogging and in the process, wanted to determine which blog engine I felt was best. So I created a working blog in the following engines:

Test of slashdigglicious plugin for social buttons. See the bottom of each of my posts now. It has Slashdot, Digg, Reddit, del.icio.us, facebook, technorati and Google bookmarks.
I tested digging a post and it worked and I tested putting a post on facebook and that worked too. Very interesting, putting it on facebook, I have not put a post on facebook before but it worked well.
You can… Continue reading

Late last week, I had found out about Odiogo which changes your blog text to speech (see my post on 8/11/2007) and had tried adding it to my blogs. At the time, I had a Google Blogger blog and a WordPress blog hosted on WordPress.com.
It worked just fine adding it to my Google Blogger blog, but it turns out there is no way to add it to a… Continue reading | 3 Comments

We had decided that we wanted to go with a web hosting company so we could set up our on site. I did some research and here is what we decided.
We went with Inmotion Hosting. I did some research and they looked like they had very good uptime and support and the features we wanted, at a reasonable price. We pay $9.95 a month and got… Continue reading | 4 Comments

I was looking at a Blog called Just Giblets and I noticed a widget at the top of each of their posts that said “listen now”. So I clicked on it and it read the entire post by converting the text to speech! I tried other posts and it did the same for every post. And as I was going down their posts, I found one called “Do

Well, the latest on my problem accessing blogger.com, google analytics, etc is now fixed. I’m not sure what the problem was, but I closed Firefox and reopened it and everything was OK. I had tried closing all but 1 tab and that didn’t do it. I thought I might have to reboot my PC but fortunately not.
As you may know, I’m trying to decide between Google Blogger and WordPress for… Continue reading | 2 Comments

If you have been using Wordpress.com to host your blog, you might be wondering how to embed a video in your post. I know I have been! Well, thanks to what else, a YouTube video, I found the answer. It isn’t hard, but I just didn’t know.
Essentially, you just copy and paste the code next to the “embed” tag that is part of the information listed for each… Continue reading

I’ve added a poll to the side bar of my other blog (Along the Path to 2.0) to get some feel for what blog engines people use and prefer. I added it to that blog because Google Blogger has a built-in page element for creating a poll which made it very easy. It is not nearly so easy in WordPress. In fact, I’m not sure how I would do… Continue reading

I found a way to add code to my Goggle Blogger blog that should let me use Google Analytics which looks like it will give me a ton of information about who accesses my blog. I just added it so I’ll have to wait to see what information I get.
Since this can track any website, I could add this blog to it also, but I have to figure out how… Continue reading
