December 03, 2009 By: smmellott Category: funny, humor, librarians, shopping

Here comes another Christmas and we all wonder what to get the hard-to-please among our family and friends. Well, good old Archie McPhee still isn’t letting us down! Despite the fact that they no longer carry the Illustrated Librarian line of temporary tattoos (perfect for the librarian on your list), they do have a nice “Read or Die” shopping bag which is new. For other librarian(and zombie) related items you can check out my post Librarians and Zombies: Novel Presents You will Love (and some librarian trivia) Continue reading

How to Redirect your Blog to a different URL Part 2: WordPress.com

November 27, 2009 By: smmellott Category: WordPress, blogs, howto, tips

This post deals primarily with pointing your blog to either a domain name you purchased or a domain (or sub-domain) on your self-hosted site. You would still be using your original blog and it would still be on wordpress.com, but you could get it using your own domain name, like clear.bluedei.com instead of allthingsweb20.wordpress.com. In this post,  I cover how to set up your google blog so that someone can type in your custom domain name (mine is blog.bluedei.com)  and it shows your Google Blogger blog (mine is bluedei.blogspot.com). In other words, if you had a google blog… Continue reading

A Fun One-Sentence Book Game for Twitter and Facebook!

November 16, 2009 By: smmellott Category: facebook, funny, twitter, web 2.0

I was looking at my Facebook and a friend of mine, Jason Summers had posted as his status “The shoes never faded all the way”.

Well, that’s interesting – what did it mean? Then I read the comments below it and Jason had commented the following:

“Rules of the game: grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.

Yes Virginia, There IS a Clear Blue Dei blog! Stay Tuned!

November 03, 2009 By: smmellott Category: web 2.0

Hey all,

As you are probably aware, it has been a rather trying 1.5 years. In late 2007 I discovered that my father’s ex-wife, with whom he was still living, was misusing him and his money and from that point until this August, when he died, I have been going through lawsuits, nursing homes, medicaid, etc. in order to gain guardianship over dad and to try to recover some… Continue reading

My Father, Courtney Lubbes 8/20/1921 – 8/28/2009 Part 2

October 22, 2009 By: smmellott Category: dad

I am still working on dad’s memorial info and also trying to tie up all the loose ends involved when someone dies. In the meantime, here is a link to several pictures I’ve put up on flickr and that we showed at the memorial service on a big screen behind the pastor. Also, this is the picture I used in the obituary for dad. It really exemplifies his joyful… Continue reading | 2 Comments

Dear Friends and Relatives,,

Just wanted to let you know that dad passed away yesterday morning, Aug 28th about 7am. Susie and Sean (my husband and I) and Jill (my sister) were with him all night and he slipped peacefully away. He was under Hospice care but did not become critical until Thursday afternoon and that’s when we were called in. He will be cremated and a memorial will… Continue reading | 1 Comment

Facebook: Be Careful! Your Content is Theirs, Forever.

February 16, 2009 By: smmellott Category: facebook, social networks

According to Facebook’s old terms of service, when you closed your account with them, their rights to your uploaded content expired. This is their old facebook policy. In reading through the old terms, I was still surprised at how much rights facebook had to my content.

But now Facebook claims rights to anything you upload, regardless whether or not you have removed the content or your account has… Continue reading

Book Break: The Margarets, by Sheri Tepper

September 22, 2008 By: smmellott Category: 2.0, amazon, books

I just finished an excellent book by Sheri Tepper called “The Margarets”. Sheri Tepper is one of my favorite authors. She frequently writes about interesting issues from a different perspective, such as matriarchy and women in “The Gate to Women’s Country” (another excellent book). She writes science fiction/fantasy, but from a distinctly female perspective. Being a woman, while I primarily read SF/fantasy, I prefer a female protagonist/characters. That is one… Continue reading | 1 Comment
